The Training Enhancement in Applied Counselling and Health (TEACH) Project is Canada’s benchmark tobacco cessation education program. TEACH provides continuing education and capacity-building focused on training healthcare providers to support their patients/clients with tobacco addiction and cessation, and address e-cigarette use/vaping.
TEACH offers a range of capacity-building activities including accredited continuing education courses and webinars, tailored training and resource development for partner organizations, and an active community of practice network.
The TEACH Project has shown to have a positive impact on participants’ knowledge and skills in treating tobacco addiction, especially among specific populations with high tobacco use prevalence (e.g., people living with mental illness and/or substance use disorders, Indigenous peoples, low income communities, people living with a tobacco-related chronic disease, etc.).
Our Approach
TEACH courses are designed using best practices in adult learning and education. TEACH believes teaching and learning is a collaborative effort, where participants engage with faculty and other learners to discover, analyze and apply new knowledge and skills. TEACH courses are designed with many healthcare providers and practice settings in mind to support wide implementation of knowledge and skills post-training.
Our Reach
Since 2006, TEACH has significantly contributed to building capacity in tobacco cessation treatment training 6,551 healthcare providers across Canada. If you are interested in learning more about TEACH's impact,
