Clinical Training Opportunities

Clinical training oportunities are available for in the following capacities:


Second Year Medical Students with the University of Toronto's Health in Community Program: Community Based Service-Learning (CBSL) Stream

We, the Nicotine Dependence Service (NDS), are partnered with the University of Toronto's Health in Community Program for second year medical students in the Community Based Service-Learning stream. As a student, you can experience first-hand how the NDS acts as a partner in health by leading a variety of projects under the direction of an assigned supervisor. ​

Note: this program is reserved for second year medical students at the University of Toronto, only.

​Residents (Family Medicine, Pediatric and Psychiatry) and Clinical Fellows (Family Medicine and Psychiatry)

Short-term and longitudinal elective resident placements as well as long-term clinical fellowship placements are offered at our Nicotine Dependence Clinic (NDC). As a residents or fellow, you can conduct client assessments and follow-up appointments related to the client's tobacco dependence treatment.​

Nursing and Social Work Students

Nursing and social work placements are available at the Nicotine Dependence Clinic (NDC). These placements include training in conducting patient assessments, follow-up appointments related to the patient's tobacco dependence treatment needs, and patient group facilitation.​

Clinical Volunteers and Observers

Volunteers with the Nicotine Dependence Clinic (NDC) gain valuable experience interacting with and assisting clients seeking tobacco dependence treatment. If you would like to volunteer, the minimum expected time commitment is one year.

Clinical observers at the NDC may be able to attend individual and/or group client appointments; however, they are not permitted to contribute to these sessions and client consent must be obtained prior to any observational session.​
