Certificate Program

The TEACH Certificate Program is an intensive training program in cessation counselling and applied health. Students are trained in the psychosocial context of tobacco use, as well as knowledge and skills needed to provide comprehensive smoking cessation interventions. Course are delivered online and moderated by faculty. 

Requirements: To complete the TEACH Certificate Program, you must take the TEACH Core Course plus two TEACH Specialty Courses. You may take courses independently as well. 

Length: 46.5 hours of instruction

Fee: $975 CAD (Program Package - Core Course + Specialty Course + Specialty Course); $475 CAD (Core Course); $400 (Specialty Course)

Please note: as of June 30, 2022, TEACH will be discontinuing the Certificate Program administered through the University of Toronto. As of July 1, 2022, ​TEACH will offer the Certificate Program administered through the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).



Additional Courses

TEACH also offers stand-alone courses that focus on specific populations or topics related to cessation and substance use treatment. Students receive up to date knowledge on the topic, and gain skills to increase competency and confidence in providing interventions. New courses are added periodically to address emerging topics. These course are not part of the TEACH Certificate Program.

Requirements: Not applicable. Students can take one or more courses.

Educational Rounds (Webinars)

TEACH Educational Rounds is a monthly webinar series for healthcare providers across all disciplines to enhance knowledge and skills in offering tobacco cessation interventions. Topics are indentified by the TEACH Community of Practice. Each session focuses on a particular area of tobacco dependence, such as treating specific patient populations, emerging research and evidence-based treatment guidelines. 

Requirements: Must register and complete the pre- and post-webinar learning assessments to receive an accredited Letter of Completion.

Length: 1 hour from 12pm to 1pm EST

Workshops

​​The Foundational Health Educator Workshop is a two-day highly interactive workshop that is a recognized equivalent of the comprehensive health education program for Canadian Network for Respiratory Care's (CNRC) Certified Tobacco Educator ​(CTE) Credential. This workshop covers all essential core ​competencies including health promotion and education, communication, educational interventions, resource management, professional practice​ and program evaluation.

Requirements: There are no pre-requisites to take the Foundational Health Educator Workshop. However, for those interested in challenging the Certified Tobacco Educator (CTE) exam, you must also complete a CNRC-approved Tobacco Education Program (e.g., TEACH Core Course)​.

Length: Two days 

Location: Toronto, ON (In Person Only)

Date and Time: 2025 dates to be announced at a later date.​

Fee: $595 CAD (includes the required course workbook and lunch on both workshop days)​
