Peter SelbyMBBS, Medicine, Bombay University, India. MHSc, Public Health Sciences, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Lead & Senior Scientist Dr. Peter Selby is a Senior Scientist and Senior Medical Consultant at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). He is the Vice-Chair, Research and Giblon Professor in Family Medicine, University of Toronto. His research focuses on innovative methods to understand and treat addictive behaviours and their comorbidities. He uses technology to combine clinical medicine and public health methods to scale up and test health interventions. His cohort of >400,000 treated smokers in Ontario is an example of this. He has received grant funding totaling over 100 million dollars from CIHR, NIH, and Ministry of Health and has published >200 peer reviewed publications. His most recent programme of research utilizes a Learning Health Systems approach to investigate how technology equitable collaborative care can enhance the delivery of evidence-based interventions to the patient while providing a more satisfying experience of care for patients and providers across systems. Dr. Zawertailo utilizes a variety of techniques to approach this research question including neuroimaging, behavioural and cognitive tasks such as cue-induced craving, genetics, randomized clinical trials, and large population-based approaches to smoking cessation. Her goal is to understand the neurobiological processes involved in tobacco dependence in order to optimize treatment outcomes in these specific comorbid populations. As a scientist at the Nicotine Dependence Services (NDS) at the Centre for Addition and Mental Health (CAMH) Dr. Minian leads the Knowledge Translation team, supporting the implementation, evaluation, and sustainability of evidence in practice. Her work ensures that the NDS is continually striving toward delivering the highest quality and most efficient services possible so that the best outcomes can be achieved for Ontario smokers. At the NDS, Dr. Minian undertakes research studies regarding tobacco and alcohol control, mental health and addiction in primary care, as well as health prevention and knowledge translation initiatives using technology and methods to scale up interventions. She likes to work in collaboration with communities, researchers and policy makers to promote health equity and improve the health system. He completed his undergraduate (BSc in Toxicology) and graduate (MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences) education at the University of Toronto. His graduate thesis work investigated behavioral mechanisms of smoking cessation pharmacotherapy. Currently he focuses on implementation and rapid scale-up of technology-enabled solutions to bring treatment to real and virtual patient spaces. This typically involves starting with what works, then innovating variations and new models with emerging technologies, informed by population behavior trends. His approach is to collaborate across disciplines, and engage in appropriate industry partnerships to achieve greater value for patients and increase return on investment for the healthcare system. This work stems from previous involvement in innovating and implementing large-scale treatment delivery initiatives for smoking cessation.
